Individual and family therapy

Psychotherapy is provided to children, youth and adults. An integrated approach is implemented that includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, family systems and solution focused models. Dr Power uses a collaborative psychotherapy model where the therapist and client work together in a safe environment to address important issues and learn effective coping strategies for anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem or relationship problems.

Assessments

Assessments for gifted screening, learning and emotional problems, developmental disabilities and ADHD.

Parenting support and consultations

Work together with parents to help children meet their true potential within the educational system.

A psychological assesssment provides:

Information regarding the student’s intellectual functioning, memory, attention, academic skills, executive functioning, emotional functioning and personality. If a student is struggling with learning or behavioural difficulties at school or does not appear to be meeting their true potential, an assessment will assist in gaining a better understanding of the underlying problems and make recommendations for academic accommodations.

A diagnosis may be provided if diagnostic criteria are met. Consultation regarding working with the educational system, developing a Growth Plan or an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and attending an Identification Placement Review Committee (IPRC) meeting is also available.
